Jackson County Republican Party endorses Mike Nofs for State Senate
Former State Representative best choice for the 19th District
(Jackson) – At the April 4, 2009 Executive Committee meeting, the Jackson County Republican Party formally endorsed Mike Nofs to fill the vacant 19th District State Senate seat.
Nofs formally announced his candidacy for the Senate seat on Tuesday at Advance Turning in Blackman Township.
“Mike Nofs will be an excellent State Senator,” said Janie Hildebrandt, chair of the Jackson County Republican Party. “His Jobs First, Jobs Now plan will resonate well in the district and the voters will respond accordingly.”
The 19th State Senate seat was vacated when Mark Schauer became the U.S. Congressman in the 7th District in January 2009. Governor Jennifer Granholm set the dates of the special election for an August 4, 2009 Primary election and a November 3, 2009 General election.
“The 19th State Senate District is not represented in the State Senate during these critical times when federal stimulus money is needed for Calhoun and Jackson counties,” Hildebrandt said. “We need an effective legislator to fight for the residents of the 19th District.”
Nofs previously served for three terms in the State House representing the 62nd District in Calhoun County. Prior to the State House, Nofs retired as the Battle Creek Post Commander in 2002 after serving 25 years with the Michigan State Police. Nofs also served for 10 years on the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners.
