Gov. Mitt Romney Wins Jackson County Republican Presidential Straw Poll
Sen. Fred Thompson Has Strong Showing in Poll
In second place was former Senator Fred Thompson with 27% of the vote, followed by Mayor Rudy Giuliani in third place with 13%, Senator John McCain with 12% and Rep. Ron Paul with 9% of the vote. All other candidates finished with less than 2% of the vote.
The results of this straw poll serves as a early indication to the preference of Jackson County Republican voters for next year's Presidential primary, said Kevin Brownlow, organizer of the straw poll.
Over 184 people took part in the informal poll and the final results are:
- Gov. Mitt Romney 61 votes (33.15%)
- Sen. Fred Thompson 50 votes (27.17%)
- Mayor Rudy Giuliani 24 votes (13.04%)
- Sen. John McCain 23 votes (12.5%)
- Rep. Ron Paul 16 votes (8.69%)
- Sen. Sam Brownback 3 votes (1.63%)
- Gov. Mike Huckabee 3 votes (1.63%)
- Rep. Tom Tancredo 2 votes (1.08%)
- Rep. Duncan Hunter 1 vote (.54%)
- Tommy Thompson 1 vote (.54%)
